Our delivery preference options have changed to AM (7:00am–12:00pm) and PM (12:00pm–6:00pm) delivery slots.
Every year, World Pharmacists Day provides an opportunity to recognise the incredible contribution pharmacists make to healthcare.
While many people associate pharmacists with dispensing medicines, their role extends far beyond this. They are experts in medicines management, patient safety, clinical decision-making, and ensuring that people receive the right treatment at the right time.
At HealthNet, our pharmacy team works behind the scenes every day to support patients, NHS healthcare professionals, and pharmaceutical partners. Their expertise helps ensure that homecare services run safely, smoothly, and efficiently, enabling patients to receive essential treatments in the comfort of their own homes.
Why Pharmacists Are Vital in Healthcare
Pharmacists play a critical role across the healthcare system. They help patients understand their medicines, identify potential issues with prescriptions, monitor treatment suitability, and work closely with clinicians to optimise patient care.
In clinical homecare, pharmacists are particularly important because they help bridge the gap between the hospital and the patient's home. Their knowledge and attention to detail help ensure treatments are delivered safely and that patients have the support they need throughout their treatment journey.

Pharmacists at HealthNet
Our pharmacy team is at the heart of everything we do.
Working closely with NHS Trusts, hospital teams, consultants, nurses, and patients, they help maintain the highest standards of care and medication safety.
Reviewing Prescriptions
Every prescription received undergoes a thorough clinical review. Our pharmacists check prescription accuracy, dosage requirements, treatment suitability, and any potential issues before medicines are approved for supply.
This process helps ensure that every patient receives the correct treatment and provides an additional layer of safety within the homecare pathway.
Liaising with Hospitals and Clinicians
Effective communication is essential in homecare. Our pharmacists regularly collaborate with hospitals, consultants, specialist nurses, and other healthcare professionals to clarify prescriptions, resolve queries, and ensure treatment plans remain up to date.
By working closely with healthcare teams, they help provide continuity of care and contribute to positive patient outcomes.
Supporting Patients
For many patients, starting a new medication or treatment can feel overwhelming. Our pharmacy team helps provide reassurance by supporting patients throughout their treatment journey.
Whether answering questions about medicines, resolving prescription issues, or helping coordinate care, pharmacists play an important role in helping patients feel informed, confident, and supported.
Ensuring Medicines Are Supplied Safely
Patient safety is at the centre of everything our pharmacy team does.
From reviewing prescriptions and managing stock to overseeing dispensing processes and supporting medicine deliveries, our pharmacists help ensure that medicines reach patients safely and efficiently.
Their work helps maintain the quality, safety, and reliability that patients and healthcare professionals depend upon.

Meet the Team | Lead Pharmacist Spotlight
We spoke to Lead Pharmacist, Maxine Mwenje, to learn more about her journey into pharmacy, what motivates her every day, and the vital role pharmacists play in delivering safe and effective homecare services. Here's what she had to say...
What inspired you to become a pharmacist?
"My uncle had been a pharmacist for many years, so he was a big influence on me. He would often talk to me about his work and how rewarding it was to be able to help people through pharmacy, which really stuck with me. I’ve always enjoyed science and knew I wanted to work in healthcare, so hearing about his experiences made pharmacy feel like the right path for me."
What’s the most rewarding part of your role at HealthNet?
"For me, it’s knowing that the work we do behind the scenes has a real impact on patients. As a Lead Pharmacist, I also find it really rewarding to support and develop the team, improve the way we work and find solutions when things don’t quite go to plan. Homecare can be complex, so seeing the team work together to make sure patients receive their medication safely and on time is particularly rewarding."
What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about homecare pharmacy?
"Probably just how much goes on behind the scenes. There are so many clinical, operational, and logistical steps involved, often requiring coordination between the pharmacy, hospitals, manufacturers, nurses, and delivery teams. A lot has to come together to get medication safely to the patient’s front door and make what is actually quite a complex process feel like a simple and seamless service for them."
