The Platelia SARS-CoV-2 Total Ab assay screens for total antinucleocapsid antibodies IgM, IgA and IgG against coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the virus associated with COVID-19. This serological assay enables clinicians to identify individuals with an adaptive immune response to SARS-CoV-2, indicating recent or prior infection.

Technical data for COVID-19 antibodies:

  • Accuracy: 99.6%
  • Specificity: >99% while showing no cross-reactivity to non-SARS coronaviruses or other medical conditions.

Following SARS-CoV-2 infection, IgA and IgM are produced first, while IgG antibodies are detectable later. In a study by Guo et al, 2020, the median time to detect IgM and IgA antibodies was 5 days and to detect IgG was 14 days after symptom onset. The data suggests that IgA detection is associated with better sensitivity, by comparison to notably, IgM detection alone.

IgM, which is mainly found circulating in the blood and lymph fluid, is the first antibody to be made by the body to fight a new infection (usually within the first 6 or 7 days). This could mean that your body is now essentially fighting the COVID-19 virus as you have had a rapid immune response.

IgA, is found in the linings of the respiratory tract and digestive system, as well as in saliva (spit), tears, and breast milk. Following SARS-CoV-2 infection, In a study by Guo et al., 2020, the median time to detect IgM and IgA antibodies was 5 days and to detect IgG was 14 days after symptom onset.

IgG is our most abundant type of antibody and it is found in all body fluids protecting the individual against bacterial and viral infections. This usually develops 21 days after exposure to COVID-19 and means that you have been previously exposed to COVID-19, with or possibly without symptoms.

COVID-19 antibodies have been detected in your blood – this suggests that you have been exposed to SARS-CoV-2 and have had an immune response. The advantage of this test result is that you have now identified that you have previously been exposed to COVID-19.

Please note: The link between the presence of antibodies and immunity is not proven. A positive test result for antibodies does not necessarily mean that you are immune to COVID-19. However, as we learn more about COVID-19 you will be in a better position to understand the implications of your test results.

An absence of antibodies means that it is likely that you have NOT had COVID-19. An absence of antibodies infers an absence of immune defence to further coronavirus infections.

We charge £99 for the finger prick tests (point of care tests) with results provided in 10 minutes or £119 for the venous blood tests which are sent to a UKAS registered laboratory for analysis with results provided within 24-48 hours.

The cost includes the nurse visiting your home to perform the test of your choice.

COVID-19 PCR Testing for Business

We can provide PCR testing to keep your workforce safe. A PCR test looks for the presence of genetic material from the COVID-19 virus within a swab or saliva sample to tell you if you have an active infection

PCR tests are being used to rule out COVID-19 infection before travel or before resuming other activities

The COVID-19 PCR test requires a throat swab sample to be collected under the direct supervision of our nurse and the sample is sent back to our UKAS registered laboratory to be analysed

We can provide results within 24 – 48 hours from receipt of the sample by the laboratory, depending on your requirements. This includes the provision of certificates for travel, if required

Faster turnaround of results may be available, and we would be happy to discuss your individual service requirements

The COVIC-19 PCR test looks for the presence of genetic material from the COVID-19 virus within a swab or saliva sample. These tests are commonly referred to as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests. Antigen tests look for parts of the virus.

The COVID-19 PCR test requires a throat swab sample to be collected by our nurse and the sample is then sent back to our laboratory to be analysed.

PCR throat swabs are being used to rule out COVID-19 infection before travel or before resuming other activities. We can issue certificates for travel within 48 – 72 hours.

If your COVID-19 PCR test is positive our nurses can advise the next steps. The employee will need to isolate as well as anyone who they may have come into contact with.

For further guidance please visit NHS website here

A negative PCR test means that you were not infected with COVID-19 at the time the swab was taken. If you have no symptoms, you can continue as normal. However, if you have symptoms, you must follow NHS guidance.
